Cahokia Mounds - Worth it for the History
(Updated: October 25, 2021)
Rating
4.0
The Cahokia Mounds are not spectacular, by a long shot. But a visit to the Cahokia Mounds should appeal to anyone interested in the Pre-Columbus history of North America and the native population that once developed a major civilization here and then mysteriously disappeared.
You can climb up some of the Cahokia Mounds, but I have never done so. Most of my visit time has been spent at the indoor Interpretive Center and to watch the short media presentation there that gives a historical overview of the site.
If you are driving through the area, it doesn't take long to stop in and get some awareness of the significance of the Cahokia Mounds. If you live in the St. Louis metro area, the Cahokia Mounds should be on your list of easy trips around the area as it lies only about a 20 minute drive east of downtown St. Louis in the Collinsville, Illinois area.
