Izakaya-Style Menu in a Quiet Neighborhood

Izakaya Ren Sushi & Sake is located in a quiet area of Kirkwood just a few miles west of I-270 on Dougherty Ferry Road. We visited on a Friday night and enjoyed a variety of Japanese and Korean dishes. As per their name, the restaurant/bar is emulating a Japanese izakaya which is typically a drinking establishment serving small dish snacks or hors d'oeuvres. Izakaya Ren Sushi & Sake also serves sushi as per their name which would be a rarity for an izakaya in Japan. But the combination is quite welcome here.

One of the niceties of Izakaya Ren Sushi & Sake is that you are greeted with the customary Japanese welcome of "Irrashaimase." That makes you feel somewhat like you are in Japan in spite of all of the servers being American. Around the one-room facility there is a very small sushi bar seating just four customers. Most people will sit at table settings or either of two booths. There is one flat screen TV and we heard quiet Jazz music being played on the sound system.

We all enjoyed our visit and would definitely come again.
