Per their website: "Founded in 1859, the Missouri Botanical Garden is the nation's oldest botanical garden in continuous operation and a National Historic Landmark. The Garden is a center for botanical research and science education, as well as an oasis in the city of St. Louis. The Garden offers 79 acres of beautiful horticultural display, including a 14-acre Japanese strolling garden, Henry Shaw's original 1850 estate home, and one of the world's largest collections of rare and endangered orchids. For over 151 years, the Garden has been an oasis in the city, a place of beauty and family fun—and also a center for education, science, and conservation."

Geodesic Dome "Climatron" + Seiwa-en Japanese garden
(Updated: October 25, 2021)
Rating

5.0
The Missouri Botanical Garden has been a favorite stop on my St. Louis sightseeing list since I was a youngster. I was always impressed with the Climatron (1960) built as a geodesic dome plus the Seiwa-en Japanese garden (1977) which was developed later on. It is also the site of the annual Japan Festival normally held over the Labor Day weekend.

The gardens are probably part of most every local school district's class excursion list. The Missouri Botanical Garden makes for an enjoyable and informative stroll for visitors who enjoy exhibits of both local and exotic flora. The Missouri Botanical Garden was founded back in 1859 and is located next to Tower Grove Park, another St. Louis landmark. It also has a cafe on-site plus its own fenced-in parking lot.
