The Golden Eagle Ferry - Useful & Fun Way to Cross the Mississippi River
(Updated: October 25, 2021)
Rating

Not only is the Golden Eagle Ferry a great way to cross the Mississippi River in St. Charles County, Missouri to Calhoun County, Illinois, it is a fun experience on a nice day. I've ridden the ferry quite a few times over the years. Most of the traffic on the Golden Eagle Ferry consists of passenger vehicles. On nice weekends, you may also see motorcylists out to enjoy a ride. I believe the one-way fare is $8 for a car. Hopefully someone else can chime in with more details. I'll also try to update this review after a future crossing.

After crossing from Missouri to Illinois, you can work your way east along the river towards Alton. Along the way, also you'll need to cross the Illinois River which has a free ferry operated by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
