The Museum of Transportation is located in a quiet area of Kirkwood on the south side of I-270. It is part of the St. Louis County Parks and Recreation Department and covers 129 acres. The museum is considered to be one of the largest collections of transportation related vehicles in the world and encompasses more than 190 major exhibits.

Essentially, if it is a vehicle of sorts ("Planes, Trains, and Automobiles") you may find that type of vehicle here. Even in the center of the country, the Museum of Transportation has boats. But it is in the trains department that the museum really shines.

I've watched the exhibits continue to expand ever since I was a kid. Every once in a while, I just seem to have to go back to see "what's new" in this collection of yesteryear. The displays seem to appeal to people of all ages plus both local and outside visitors.
