Booker T. Washington National Monument - Nice Family Visit
(Updated: October 24, 2021)
Rating

4.0
If you happen to be in the area of Smith Mountain Lake, Booker T. Washington National Monument makes a nice visit for adults or even families with children. The adults will understand the historical significance of Booker T. Washington and the kids seemed to enjoy running around and visiting the log cabins on the tract. These cabins and working buildings give one an idea of what living conditions were like back in this bygone era of slavery.

There is a small visitor center with an informative media presentation about Booker T. Washington. The presentation is not very long and is very worthwhile to watch for a good overview of this historic figure. I bought a book written by Booker T. Washington and read it while visiting Smith Mountain Lake. It really enhanced my appreciation of the area. If you have a Kindle, you should be able to download his writings for free.

There is no charge to visit and you can easily see everything including the media presentation in about 45 minutes.
