Wish there was Meramec River access

Our visit to Unger Park was disappointing. The main park road runs parallel to the Meramec River but we couldn't find any place along that road to really access the river such as a parking lot with a scenic viewpoint. There is a small lake in the park and we saw a handful of people taking advantage of it. Otherwise, there really isn't much here to see or do.
