Hiking & biking along the Meramec River

I like Sherman Beach Park simply because it appears somewhat remote and unused. There isn't a lot here. The parking lot is small and there are no benches or other facilities. It acts more as a trailhead for two trails. I saw one jogger on our late Sunday afternoon visit. I could see tire tracks indicating that mountain bikers also use the trail.
There is an old railway bridge (with graffiti on it's piers) crossing the Meramec River here right next to the parking lot (west side) and a short walk takes you down to a somewhat rocky beach area (east side) on the river. Interestingly, I saw a lot of what appeared to be freshwater mussel shells here on the beach downstream of the bridge. They were up to 5 or 6 inches in length. I suppose this area is where Sherman Beach Park gets the beach part of their name.
Kayakers might enjoy Sherman Beach Park as an access point. However, to get to the "beach" area could take about 3 or more minutes lugging your boat.
