Fun Outdoor Destination in Manhattan

The High Line has quickly become one of New York City's major tourist destinations. The west side of Manhattan is really growing and developing; the addition of this beautiful park has left it's mark on this area. I work in Chelsea, so I really love spending my lunches on the High Line to relax and read. I also like to take the High Line to break away from the traffic on the streets when going south towards 14th Street, it's a nice relief from the usual concrete surroundings. Although, because it's a tourist stop now, it can get a little crowded at times, but it's expected in NYC.

If you make your way down towards the southern end of the park, there are usually a lot of food vendors that are worth trying out. I love the popsicles from People's Pops, and also some of the heartier fare from Northern Spy Food Co.-- the biscuit and egg sandwiches are pretty amazing.

There are many great viewing areas to watch NYC traffic and pedestrians pass by; great views of the Hudson river and Chelsea Piers; beautiful foliage and smells of the fresh grasses and plants; and of course, great people watching! The High Line is also a great vantage point to view some of the fantastic architecture in the area. The High Line was originally an elevated rail line, it's neat to see how some of the forgotten elements of the city can be transformed into such an enjoyable park.
