Today, I visited the World Bird Sanctuary which is located right next to Lone Elk County Park. I was surprised by the number of live bird exhibits there are here. I guess that there must be around 150 large birds including Bald Eagles (which I've never seen before close up), many varieties of hawks and owls, falcons, and many more species. It took us about 30 minutes to leisurely walk the blacktop lane between the aviary cages. There were many families with kids viewing the birds. I believe there are more large birds here than at the St. Louis Zoo.

After viewing the bird displays, you can also view elk and bison at Lone Elk County Park next door which the kids will also enjoy as you can view those large animals right from your car. I'll write a review of that park next. If you combine a visit to both of these parks, your kids can have an interesting wildlife experience packed into just a few hours.

Admission is free.
