We visited Lone Elk Park in combination with the World Bird Sanctuary which borders on this same park. I suggest you visit both areas on the same day.

Lone Elk Park is mostly a drive through park. One area had elk. The animals are used to seeing people so you can stop along the roadway to snap photos. But you must stay inside your car (motorcycles are prohibited). Likewise, you also drive through the bison area and must stay in your vehicle. We didn't see many bison. There were many more elk and some deer. There is also a small lake but fishing is not allowed without advance reservation.

Once outside of the elk and bison areas, there were a few pullover areas with picnic tables and some stops had cooking grills. We enjoyed seeing these large animals within this wooded park. Kids should love it! Admission is free.
