Yasukuni Shrine - Where Warriors of Japan are enshrined as Dieties
(Updated: October 25, 2021)
Rating

5.0
Yasukuni Shrine, located nearby Kudanshita Station, is not a huge structure but it is very historically significant. The shrine is located within walking distance to the Imperial Palace for very good reasons.

This shrine is where the Japanese military war dead are enshrined as "deities." Accordingly, Yasukuni Shrine is somewhat a controversial shrine in the eyes of many people of Asia whose countries were occupied by Japan during World War II. Many Asians still oppose any official visit by the Prime Minister of Japan to pay respects to the war dead here.

Yasukuni Shrine gets over 5 million visitors per year. If you are interested in Japan's historical role in World War II, you should consider a visit to this special shrine created to honor the fallen soldiers of Imperial Japan.
