Passing by Festus on I-55, we stopped at this McDonald's for a snack and to use the restrooms which were clean and modern. Good choice!
The decor is simple but we liked the taste of the food and the portions.
There really isn't much here to see: just the one-floor remaining corner of part of the old prison building. However, next to the prison ruins is a small covered display area with related pictures and a written historical explanation. The Alton Confederate Prison Ruins are just a little up a hill in front of the large grain elevators located on...
There really isn't much to see here and so it's only worth visiting for those with an historic interest in the Civil War. On the base of the monument are plaques with the names of the soldiers buried here and showing in which units they served.
We visited Beasley's Fish Market at about 6 PM on a Saturday. It was packed and so it took us 25 minutes to get our order -- just as we were told. We were given a number which was called at the appropriate time. We ordered Alaskan Pollack and Catfish plus 3 sides: French fries,...
Lincoln-Shields Recreation Area is a riverside park and public boat ramps area on the Missouri side of the the Mississippi River just across from the old downtown of Alton, Illinois. Here was once the location of the old lock and dam system that has since been upgraded and rebuilt to a new location just a bit downstream. ...
We stopped in briefly late on a Wednesday afternoon. We had a glass of White Catawba wine for $7.50 and a diet cola for $2.50 with free refills. Our server at the bar, Ellen, was very good to us. In fact, all of the staff were pleasantly outgoing. The facility itself is rather nice and includes a fenced-in patio at...
We had an early dinner and drinks here on a Wednesday evening. My spouse enjoyed a glass of German white wine for $7.00 and I had a $2 can of diet cola. We each ate a sandwich with chips which we though were OK but nothing to write home about. Perhaps those are a bit overpriced for their prices ($10)....
We visited Grafton Winery & Brewhaus on a Sunday and enjoyed the hamburgers (simple) and the drinks on their outdoor deck overlooking the Mississippi River. There was a trio playing a mix of jazz and rock songs. The winery portion is sort of self-service in that you order food & drinks at a counter and...
We stopped in at The Schlafly Tap Room for an early dinner on a Sunday evening. I had their Cuban Sandwich which I liked a lot and my wife had their Fish & Chips plate which tasted good but included only one small whitefish filet which was somewhat disappointing. All of their own draft pints of beer were $5. ...
I've passed by this bar many times on the way to elsewhere and have always wanted to check it out. It is located at the intersection of local Highway T and Highway D south of the town of Foristell, Missouri. We stopped by on a Thursday afternoon when there were about 10 customers inside. I...
Stovall's Grove is located out west of Saint Louis County on the old Route 66 (State Highway 100). It's just about 5 minutes west of the junction of Highway 100 and Highway 109. This area is either Pacific, Missouri (per my GPS) or the far reaches of Wildwood (per their postal address). While the building...
