I visited West Tyson Park on a weekday afternoon in August. Although it encompasses a large acreage per the map, the roadway that we drove on in the park was very short. The road was just one-lane even though it was a two-way road. The entire area of the park that we visited was wooded. ...
We visited this McDonald's at 4 PM on a Wednesday in August. We saw litter around the floor and the table tops were not very clean. The restrooms are just above dive bar status and you could see that the faucet had not been cleaned in a very long time as it had lots of deposits on it.
When visiting Aerie's Riverview Winery, which is located atop a hill overlooking the confluence of the Mississippi River and the Illinois River at Grafton, we saw a sign that boasted "Best View in the Midwest." That may or may not be true. But, certainly, Aerie's Riverview Winery has one of the best scenic views in the St. Louis metro area....
Grafton Harbor Marina is located right at the confluence of the Mississippi River and the Illinois River. I'm a boater but I visited the Grafton Harbor Marina just to see what a non-boating visitor could do. Primarily, there is an interesting, second-floor river view bar named the Big Kahuna Bar & Grill. There is a...
The Marina @ Pere Marquette State Park is not really a marina per se. It is more like a nice river access point with a boat launching ramp, small harbor, docks, and a pavilion. Considering the amount of land dedicated to this marina area, it is currently quite under-utilized -- at least during our Saturday afternoon visit in August. ...
I've enjoyed the Grafton Ferry ride from north St. Charles County over to Grafton, Illinois which is developing into a mini-tourism town with it's growing marina, restaurants, and bars. The ride takes about 12 minutes and currently costs $8 one-way for a car or $15 round trip. If you purchase the round trip fare, they give you a card the...
Being a native St. Louisian, I've many times seen the Becky Thatcher and Tom Sawyer replica riverboats that cruise along the Mississippi River leaving from the embankment just in front of the Gateway Arch. But until our kids bought us tickets for a dinner cruise, I'd never tried this out myself. My spouse and I did one of their dinner...
I really don't get the appeal of Times Square. It is almost that it is famous for being famous. The shops and restaurants there don't seem attractive to me. All the same, I can't imagine visiting NYC without visiting Time Square just so that you will know what it is when you see it on TV the next time. At...
We stopped by the Landings at Spirit Golf Club so that I could get a look at the course and facilities. My spouse has played here but I have not so my comments will be limited to what I saw around the clubhouse. Our visit was on a late weekday afternoon in August. There...
Kirkwood Farmers' Market is located along the railroad tracks nearby Kirkwood Amtrak Station which defines the old downtown of Kirkwood. It is an open-air market and not very large. But the location is at an interesting part of the downtown which is being revitalized with newer restaurants and bars. At one end of the market there is a small area...
Having not played Quail Creek Golf Course, I can only review what I saw. The course looks fairly nice and interesting as the area is hilly with a lot of trees. The club house is located atop one of the hills and has a nice overlook of the lower parts of the course. The club house is somewhat small but...
I'm not sure what to say about Gravois-Bluffs Shopping Center. We were in the area and drove through parts of it. The shopping center is a sprawling complex of stores. But I would liken it more to many smaller shopping malls just dropped down next to each other but not very well interconnected. I couldn't find online even a good...
