This facility dates back to the depression era of the 1930s. It has a lot of stonework and beautiful, exposed structural wood framing. It has all been immaculately kept over the years. During our visit, it was set up for a wedding amongst the trees outdoors and a conference dining room was ready for...
This is a rather dumpy restaurant in the tourist town of Grafton. There was nothing special about the fish, as far as I was concerned. The whole building is worn out and the bathroom was the pits. The only good thing I can say is that you can see the river from the restaurant's deck and even that is somewhat...
So how does one review a cemetery? For me, I look first for peacefulness. This cemetery is a little off the beaten path amidst the rolling hills behind the village of Elsah. Located off Cemetery Road, it was very tranquil and interesting. There are tombstones dating back as far as the American civil war.
I like this venue as it is one of the largest and newest Outbacks in our area. However, I found that the service tends to vary quite a bit.
I've never given a McDonald's a 5.0 rating before but my experience here was exemplary. I visited around 2:00 p.m. on a weekday and everything was perfectly clean including the restroom and the lobby area. Maybe I just lucked out and visited right after a cleaning but this was my experience. ...
We arrived in the late afternoon before the dinner rush so we were the only customers then (more people came while we were there). The food was as expected from a Qdoba outlet. We enjoyed it. However, the tables were not well cleaned in spite of there being no other customers. We had to...
This is a 3.5 mile out-and-back trail so the round trip distance is 7.0 miles. It is made of crushed rock and totally flat. The trail starts at the Winfield Lock and Dam number 25 and heads up stream right along the Mississippi River. There is no shade so take that into account....
You can't get into these two water intake towers located in the Mississippi River just below the Old Chain of Rocks Bridge. But everyone living any time in the St. Louis area knows about them. Not as many know why they are there. So rack up a view of these towers as an interesting curiosity....
I really love Redondo Beach. Yes, it's touristy. But it's a beautiful place to visit or live. It has a nice curving beach (hence the name), a wharf, and marina. There are many restaurants near the beach or around the town. And, you don't feel that you are in the Los Angeles sprawl.
This is better than expected. Besides having a National Hall of Fame for people in the world of playing horseshoes, there are two separate indoor competition areas with numerous horseshoe courts. This locale hosts competition amongst the biggest pitchers in the sport -- all located right here in the Midwest which is quite unexpected....
There isn't a lot to see here except that this boat access point on the Missouri River has a large amount of parking right along the Katy Trail. It also has two pit toilets that I'd rather not sit on unless it was an emergency situation. If nothing else, you can stop by and get...
Many people consider that this fountain display set to music at the front of the Bellagio in Las Vegas is one of the must-sees of Las Vegas. I agree -- especially if you are traveling with children. Be sure to check it out. It's worth a few minutes to stop by and enjoy.
