Bootlegger's Run Trail - Excellent

I've walked around Creve Coeur Lake quite a few times on its paved trail which I've always enjoyed. However, today, I did my first hike called Bootlegger's Run on the upper area of the park. This is a natural earthen trail that is firmly packed due to high usage. I did the loop going counter-clockwise....

Decent hiking, biking & equestrian trails just north of Wentzville

I've hiked most of the trails at Indian Camp Creek Park. As you will notice when you drive into the park, the front of the park is pretty flat and so are the hiking trails. As you move towards the back of the park, the trails incline but the walk isn't hard. If you...

Great place for locals and visitors

I've been wanting to visit Ballpark Village since it opened. I stopped in after a Cardinals baseball game this summer but since I had a drink cooler I couldn't enter. Yesterday evening, we visited around 10 PM while the Cardinals had an away game. The area was not too crowded. There was a band doing...

The ladies love it!

Magnolia Market, as it is locally referred to, is just as popular as one might imagine. It is well worth the visit if you are fans of Chip & Joanna Gaines and their TV show, Fixer Upper. You can see it as you drive by on I-35 and is easily accessible from the highway.

Lovely, beautifully quaint

Whenever I make the drive on Illinois Highway 100 between Alton and Grafton, it is hard not to stop by for a short loop drive through the small town of Elsah. "Quaint" is the term that comes to mind. There is just something about this small Mississippi River town with its bed and breakfasts that pulls me off the highway...

It is always sobering....

It is always sobering to visit one of the last resting places of the nation's war dead. I know of too many who have joined the ranks at this location which dates back to before the Civil War.

Makes you wish you were younger

This is fantastic park with amazing facilities. It makes you wish you were younger. I guess I'll have to go out and buy a skateboard. Or perhaps I can try out the rock climbing.

Beautiful bluff & Meramec River Views

This past Saturday, I hiked the "River Scene Trail" at Castlewood State Park. I've probably been to Castlewood State Park about 10 times but had never ascended this bluff trail. According to the trailhead plaque, the trail is 3 miles long. My gps tracked it as 3.5 miles. Going up to the top of the...

Great facility for both kids and adults

Wow. This is a fantastic facility for the kids and adults. The pictures of the play area just don't show how large it really is. The pavilion is excellent as are the restrooms. It has a nice pond with a fountain. Be sure to check this place out if you are in the area....

I always love an oceanview restaurant

I visited Whiskey Red's Restaurant & Events for dinner. I'm a sucker for any waterfront restaurant and this one was no different. We arrived fairly early so they were not crowded. Our server checked on us often. I had a simple fish and chips meal that was fine. We watched a fleet of sailboats returning after a race. And, it's...

I came, I saw, I left

Okay, I don't have a dog. So we visited here to see where others take their dogs for a little exercise. The place is huge (many acres) and fenced in. But there is hardly a blade of grass to be seen. I guess that since I live in the Midwest where dog parks are...
