The are many hotels close by Port Everglades to serve both it and the Greater Ft. Lauderdale/Broward County Convention Center. From many of the surrounding hotels, it is just a short taxi ride to Port Everglades. Also, note that Fort Lauderdale International Airport is not all that far away, either. Together, this makes Port Everglades a great port to board...
If you are passing by Eureka, Missouri, which is a rural part of St. Louis County on I-44, consider a stop at this area's highlight attraction -- Six Flags theme park. There isn't any other theme park of this size within several hundred miles. Eureka is on the outer part of St. Louis County, but it is not too difficult...
Big Chief Dakota Grill is an interesting experience in the rural area of St. Louis County known as Pond, Missouri. The restaurant/bar is located on an old section of Manchester Road (Route 66) and somewhat hard for our GPS to locate so please see the directions at the bottom of my review. The temperature was...
I like Sherman Beach Park simply because it appears somewhat remote and unused. There isn't a lot here. The parking lot is small and there are no benches or other facilities. It acts more as a trailhead for two trails. I saw one jogger on our late Sunday afternoon visit. I could see tire tracks indicating that mountain bikers also...
I really think that the Wabash Frisco & Pacific Railway Steam Railway Ride is one of the best $4 entertainment values that I've had in a long time. The miniature railway ride runs along the Meramec River built on the old rail bed at Glencoe, Missouri - a rural suburb of St. Louis. Parts of the railway cross over hiking...
Located in a small strip mall right next to St. Louis Community College, Wildwood Pub & Grill appears aimed at the family in general. It is fairly new. I saw a beverage glass indicating they've been open since 2008. We sat at the bar counter where our bartender, Mandy, was excellent. She checked on us...
On a whim while driving downtown in Pacific, we stopped in at the Route 66 Pacific Railfan Center. Two people staffing the center invited us in. More than anything, the Railfan Center appears to be a small shop selling railway paraphernalia related to this area. However, there is also an operating model railway display which the two gentlemen were eager...
This McDonald's is located nearby I-44 and the entrance to Six Flags at a Motomart gas station complex. I can imagine that during the tourism season, it must get a lot of traffic. We visited this McDonald's on a Wednesday afternoon in September when the theme park was closed. The food was typical McDonald's....
I really love Crystal Lake, Michigan. The name is apt. The waters of Crystal Lake are clear like a swimming pool. But when I tell people about Crystal Lake, I often describe it like swimming in the Caribbean without the salt water or the sharks. The waters are that clear, although rather cool. The lake boasts a sand bottom from...
The Biergarten at Anheuser-Busch Brewery shares the same parking lot used by the A-B Brewery Tour. In fact, it is located on a patio enclosed on 3 sides just to the left of the brewery tour entrance. There was plenty of seating around the patio at The Biergarten including tables with solid aluminum chairs, picnic...
The Beerhouse is a very large pub at River City Casino. You can access the pub without visiting the gaming area at all if you park on the south or back side of the property. The room is a long rectangle with one of the longest bar counters that I've seen in St. Louis. It serves over 30 customers but...
Saint Ferdinand Park in Florissant is mostly dedicated to baseball fields with night lighting. At the back of the park there is a landscaped pond with a walking path and kiddie playground. Around the park there are several pavilions providing shade. The roadway and parking lots are in very good condition and the park is well-maintained.
